What Makes MFA Different

MFA offers a calm and inviting space for children, adolescents, adults and families. Our space is designed to feel safe, welcoming, accepting and nurturing, so those who come to MFA feel comfortable to open up, connect, explore and grow.

We are a boutique practice offering a range of evidence-based modalities to treat individuals across the lifespan. MFA values a holistic approach to treatment, considering routines around sleep, diet and lifestyle, social support and connection and self-care practices. Our team of practitioners specialises in a range of modalities including mindfulness-based approaches, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT). Our practitioners offer Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) for adults. Our practitioners use trauma-informed practice. We also specialise in supporting the family system through Clinical Family Therapy and attachment-focused approaches. Our team also offers occupational therapy, providing both functional assessments and outreach. We understand that each person is unique, and our practitioners create an individual treatment approach with a holistic lens. Our clinic offers face-to-face and online therapy sessions.

  • Stephen Souter

    Clinic Owner, Senior Psychologist, Supervisor & Meditation Teacher

    Stephen has a calm, easy-going and friendly nature that fosters a sense of safety and openness. He believes in the limitless potential for all individuals to grow, expand and connect and that each person has a unique role and path in life which is to be celebrated.

    Stephen has extensive experience working with individuals and families of all ages in both the public and private sectors. He has specialised training in a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches including systemic family therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness based psychotherapy.

    Stephen has a special interest in teaching mindfulness practices and the integration of presence and compassion as a path to healing and health. He has undertaken extensive training from some of the worlds leading experts in the area, including Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

    Stephen also has specialist expertise in working with neurodiversity and providing comprehensive and therapeutic neurocognitive assessments.

    He is alsothe creator of the online platform Thrive with ADHD, which offers innovative, strength-based online support for individuals with ADHD.

    Stephen is a board-approved psychology supervisor and offers professional supervision, training and workshops both in person and online.

  • Dr Breeana Souter

    Clinic Owner, Senior Clinical Psychologist

    BPsychSc, BA(Hons I), MPsych (Clinical), PhD

    Breeana brings a gentle, safe and compassionate energy to the therapeutic space. She believes each person has within them the innate wisdom for their own growth potential and healing and is honoured to walk beside them in that journey for a time.

    Breeana has experience working with young people, adults and families of all ages treating a range of concerns. She is especially passionate about working to support and empower women through adolescence, emerging adulthood and during life transitions.

    Breeana values a holistic approach and has special interests in mindfulness meditation, compassion-focused approaches, ACT, somatic modalities and the mind-body connection. Breeana has completed training in Clinical EFT (Emotion Freedom Technique).

    Breeana completed her PhD through Bond University, focusing on the development and evaluation of a mindfulness-based framework and intervention with emerging adult populations. This research focused on building presence, self-compassion, resilience and well-being in young medical students.

    Breeana has a passion for writing and teaching and plans to co-create mindfulness and somatic-based programs and retreats for health professionals and the general population. In her spare time, Breeana enjoys travelling, being in nature and hanging out with her two beautiful daughters.

  • Dr Mitchell O’Leary

    Educational and Developmental Psychologist

    Mitchell (he/him) is a warm, positive and empathic psychologist who creates a calm and validating environment around those he interacts with. He has extensive experience in working with children, young people, families and others (e.g. schools) around a broad range of presenting concerns (e.g. grief and loss, anxiety, depression, school attendance, trauma, school inclusion, challenging behaviour, social skills, identity exploration).

    His experience is therapeutic, consultative and assessment based.

    Mitchell strives to help clients make positive steps in their lives through empowerment; to apply psychology in a way that fits their life to achieve their personal goals. Mitchell believes that collaboration with parents/carers and other significant person(s) in a child/young person’s life is a crucial underpinning in helping one to reach their goals.

    His practice is informed by a range of modalities, including: cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing and solution focused brief therapy. Mitchell’s experience has also enabled him to develop both a pragmatic and flexible approach to the range of questions/concerns that children/young people may wish to explore at a given time.

    Mitchell practiced as a primary school teacher in the United Kingdom before undertaking the Doctorate in Applied Educational Psychology at the University of Nottingham. He then practiced as an Educational Psychologist in a range of schools before moving to Australia in 2019. Mitchell has worked as a psychologist in schools since moving to Australia.

    Mitchell’s professional interests include: school attendance, inclusion, lifestyle/cultural impacts on development and the application of attachment informed approaches to support young people.

    In his spare time, Mitchell likes to read, watch football (soccer), run and spend time with his young family. Mitchell also likes to be in nature and explore new places within Australia and beyond.

  • Susan Kerrigan

    Sue is a highly skilled Clinical Family Therapist and counsellor who has extensive experience working with families, children & adolescents across private, educational and government settings. She is an experiential therapist who works creatively, authentically and compassionately with individuals and families.

    Her natural warmth and humour allow her to engage easily with individuals and families while being able to understand family dilemmas and conflicts and promote greater self-awareness and healthier ways of coping & relating.

    Sue believes in tapping into an individual’s and families’ strengths and resources. She uses her expertise in Family Therapy to explore links between current problems and how it connects to the past through the exploration of multi-generational family dynamics.

    Sue has been trained and supervised for over 10 years by Maurizio Andolfi, an internationally recognised Master Family Therapist. Her practice is inspired by Andolfi’s’ work as well as Aldo Gurgone from the William Street Family Therapy Centre, where Sue underwent training in Family Therapy and later worked as a Trainer herself.

    Sue has a Bachelor Degree in Counselling and Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling. She is a Clinical Member of AAFT (Australian Association of Family Therapy).

  • Ashleigh Stratton

    Ash is a warm and compassionate psychologist with experience in schools, community health, and private practice. Driven by a passion for supporting children, parents, adolescents, and adults, she supports clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

    Her practice is rooted in fostering secure attachments and recognizing the critical role of relationships in emotional healing. Ash’s approach emphasizes the importance of understanding that all feelings are valid and a part of the human experience.

    Ash is empathetic and affirming of individual differences, and tailors’ multiple modalities to meet each client’s unique needs. She offers therapy and a range of assessments including Cognitive, Learning, Autism and ADHD assessments. She particularly enjoys working with neurodivergent individuals across the lifespan. This may include supporting neurodivergent parents, helping neurodivergent teenagers in finding their place in the world, and collaborating with schools and families.

    Ash is particularly interested in the impact of technology on human development and wellbeing, especially how social media influences mental health and our identity.

    Ash also enjoys assisting individuals through significant life transitions such as school, work etc. She has a background in human resources which brings a unique insight into helping adults navigate career transitions, workplace challenges, and work-life balance.

  • Angela Godbee

    Angela is a dual-qualified health professional in psychology and social work and has completed further qualifications in family mediation.

    Angela works with clients across the lifespan experiencing a range of difficulties and uses evidence-based psychotherapies tailored to her clients’ preferred styles. She is passionate about helping clients grow their self-compassion and adopt a growth mindset, where they can trust themselves and learn from their mistakes.

    Angela greatly values the knowledge that clients bring to the collaborative partnership through their lived experience and believes that “Through Struggle Comes Strength” and is grateful and honoured to have the opportunity to support her clients through challenging times, whilst also triumphing with them on the other side of the storm.

    Angela is experienced in using a range of evidence-based psychotherapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

    Her interest areas include; mental health & well-being associated with chronic health conditions and disability, stress management, family planning, pregnancy, and postnatal support, parenting support, family therapy, social skills training, anxiety and depression disorders, neurodivergent clients, LGBTQI+ clients, culturally and linguistically diverse clients, grief and bereavement and life transitions.

    In her spare time, Angela enjoys discovering the newest cafes, catching up with friends and family, getting lost in a good book, spending time with her lovable puppy Tilly, travelling, crafting with her friends over a nice cup of tea, and going to art performances and music concerts.

  • Danielle Griffin-Taylor

    Danielle brings a warm and friendly energy to our clinic and has a passion for building connections with clients and providing them with a safe space to share their stories.

    As a busy mother of two, Danielle understands the complexities of life's demands and enjoys supporting clients, in particular women and mothers, who find themselves navigating similar complexities and challenges. Using a collaborative therapeutic approach, Danielle provides a non-judgemental and safe space for people to explore their emotions, thoughts and experiences.

    Danielle uses a range of evidence-based psychotherapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.

    In her spare time, Danielle enjoys socialising with friends, going out for coffee, binging on reality tv and keeping her two energetic daughters busy.

    Danielle holds a Bachelor Degree in Communications and a Diploma in Counselling.

  • Erinn Munro-Lee

    Erinn (She/her) is a warm and compassionate psychologist who enjoys working across the lifespan and supporting people with a wide range of challenges. Erinn seeks to create a safe and non-judgmental space for her clients, allowing them to share their concerns and work towards positive outcomes. Her approach is tailored to each client's individual needs, and she works collaboratively with clients to achieve their goals. She has a keen interest in supporting neurodivergent people to understand their unique brain style differences, build knowledge and confidence to implement appropriate accommodations, and recognise their strengths.

    Erinn has recently commenced a three-year training program in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. ISTDP focuses on emotions and solving internal conflicts. It has been found to be effective in treating anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and many physical conditions often attributed to stress. When seeing older adolescents and adults, Erinn prefers to work from an ISTDP perspective.

    Erinn has extensive experience in parenting support and coaching caregivers to improve their relationship with their children as well as manage difficult behaviours. In her practice, she utilises the collaborative and proactive solutions model to support families to work together towards solving problems before the behaviours start. Erinn is passionate about providing neurodiverse affirming care and supports parents, children, and families experiencing relational difficulties and challenging behaviour. She strongly believes in the importance of educating everyone involved in the care of neurodiverse children, and advocating for the needs of these children and their families wherever possible.

    In her spare time, Erinn enjoys playing video games, reading, and spending time with her friends and cuddling her cat, Luna. Erinn is a warm, friendly, and kind therapist who aims to work with each person’s unique strengths and interests to support them to live as authentically as possible.

  • Taylor Sweetnam

    Taylor takes a compassionate, respectful, and collaborative approach to support adult and older adolescent clients (16+). She is committed to developing a supportive, open, and safe therapeutic relationship throughout the time spent together in therapy. It is important to Taylor that you feel heard, understood, and valued throughout sessions.

    Taylor has experience and training in a variety of evidence-based psychotherapies that she draws on to address the unique goals and presenting concerns of each individual client. Her primary approaches are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), though she additionally draws upon Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Schema Therapy to inform her therapeutic approach.

    Taylor has had experience assisting individuals with a wide range of mental health challenges across a range of settings, including private practice and non-profit organisations. She is particularly passionate about working with emotional and interpersonal challenges, trauma-related disorders, and anxiety.

    Alongside her clinical practice, Taylor engages in research that has investigated the challenges individuals can have in connecting with their emotions, and the effects this can have on psychological well-being. Her research focuses on assisting individuals who struggle to engage with their emotions to become skilled in noticing, exploring, and connecting with the information that our emotions have to offer us.
